Gender and Frailty in Transplantation (GiFT)

GENDER AND FRAILTY IN TRANSPLANTATIONLouise MoistLouise Moist

About This Study

The GiFT study is a prospective, multicentre observational cohort study of adults aged 18 to 80 years who recently started hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis in Canada. Participants undergo objective and subjective frailty assessments within three months of dialysis initiation, including the Fried Frailty Phenotype, Frailty Index, Five Times Sit-to-Stand test, Clinical Frailty Scale, and Pictorial Fit-Frail Scale. The primary objective is to determine whether frailty is associated with reduced or delayed kidney transplant referral and whether this relationship differs by gender. Secondary outcomes include time to transplant work-up completion, waitlist activation, and living donor contact.
